JSS-UPDF shelling in Rangamati, many casualties feared

The firing took place between two regional groups in the remote Longadu of Rangamati. Many casualties are expected.

Locals said that the firing took place between the JSS led by Santu Larma and the UPDF led by Prasit Khisa in Chhota Kattoli area of ​​the upazila on Tuesday night.

Law and order forces could not reach the spot till Wednesday morning as the shootings took place in a remote mountainous area.

According to local sources, 6 people were killed in this incident. However, its authenticity could not be confirmed.

Praseet Khisa-led United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) organizer Anga Marma blames the Santu Larma-led JSS for the incident.

Moni Shankar Chakma, General Secretary of Longadu branch of Chittagong Hill Tracts Society (JSS) led by Santu Larma said, I have heard the matter from the locals. Occasional firing incidents occur in Chota Kattali area. But that area is under their control.

Sadhan Kumar Chakma, Ward No. 2 member of Longadu Union, said in the morning that he heard the sound of gunshots at night. I am going to the spot with an army patrol in the morning. I heard that network is not available there, I can give details after returning.

However, the investigation OC of Longdu police station said. Sanjid Ahmed said, I heard the news of the shootings at night. It was not possible for us to go to the place so inaccessible at night. An army patrol is already going there. Details will be given when they return.

Superintendent of Police Mir Modachher Hossain of Rangamati district said that gunshots were heard at night. However, the casualty has not yet been confirmed. Misleading news is being spread about this.
