Jahangir Alam’s anticipatory bail in 7 cases
Jahangir Alam, the temporarily suspended mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, has been granted anticipatory bail in the High Court in seven cases filed in different parts of the country on allegations of controversial comments.
On August 4, Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md. The High Court bench consisting of Selim granted him bail. However, the issue of bail became known today.
The former General Secretary of Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League got anticipatory bail in these cases filed in Panchagarh, Rajbari, Gazipur, Naogaon, Madaripur, Gopalganj districts.
On November 25, a case was registered against Jahangir Alam in the Madaripur court. Babul Akhtar, General Secretary of Madaripur Lawyers Association and Legal Affairs Secretary of District Awami League filed this case as plaintiff.
In the case, Jahangir was accused of making controversial comments about the Liberation War and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Before that, a case was filed against Mayor Jahangir in different districts of the country including Rajbari, Gazipur, Naogaon, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Panchagarh.
A video of Jahangir Alam’s conversation secretly recorded in September last year went viral on social media. In view of this, Jahangir was expelled from the party in the meeting of the central executive committee of Awami League on November 19 last year. He was suspended from the post of mayor on 25 November.
Meanwhile, Jahangir Alam filed a writ in the High Court against the dismissal order from the post of mayor. Another bench of the High Court has fixed Tuesday for the hearing and order of the writ.
