Khairuzzaman has been arrested without any valid reason. His lawyer said he would file a habeas corpus writ if he was not released within the next 24 hours.

Retired Army Major Mohammad Khairuzzaman was charged in the 1985 jail murder case and was later acquitted. He was appointed High Commissioner to Malaysia in 2006 during the caretaker government.
After the Awami League came to power in 2009, he was asked to return to Dhaka. Considering the risk of returning to the country, he took a UN refugee card from Kuala Lumpur and stayed there.
