Actress Nipun Akter’s appeal against the High Court’s stay on the decision of the Electoral Appeal Board to reject Zayed Khan’s candidature in the Film Artists Association elections will be heard on Wednesday.
Nipun’s lawyer Senior Advocate Rokanuddin Mahmud presented the application in the court on Tuesday and Appellate Division Chamber Judge Obaidul Hasan fixed the date for hearing.
Earlier on Monday afternoon, the High Court rejected the decision of the Appellate Board by rejecting the candidature of film actor Zayed Khan and winning the election of Bangladesh Film Artists Association by appointing Nipun Akter as the general secretary. The High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order on Monday noon on the preliminary hearing of the writ petition filed by Zayed Khan.
Senior advocates Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Ahsanul Karim and lawyer Nahid Sultana Yuthi represented Zayed Khan in the court. Lawyer Mojibul Haque Bhuiyan was also present. Senior Advocate Rokanuddin Mahmud was in favor of Nipun.
Incidentally, Zayed Khan was declared the winner of the post of General Secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association for the term of 2022-24 held on January 26. However, the defeated candidate Nipun Akhter accused him of influencing the election by buying votes with money. In view of this, the Appellate Board rejected the candidature of Zayed on February 5 and declared the rival candidate Chitranaika Nipun as the uncontested general secretary.
