Former OC Pradeep Kumar Das, who was sentenced to death in the case of Major (retd) Sinha’s murder, and Inspector Liaquat’s death reference (all case documents) have reached the High Court.
This information was given by the spokesperson of the Supreme Court Mohammad Saifur Rahman on Tuesday.
Experts say the High Court’s approval is needed for the execution of a death sentence in a criminal case.
For this, the concerned judicial court sent all the documents of the case to the High Court as per Section 374 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Which is known as Death Reference. After receiving the document, the Death Reference Branch of the High Court examined and prepared the paper book of the case. Once the paperbook is ready, it is assumed that the case is ready for hearing. After the paperbook is ready, the Chief Justice sets the bench for hearing the death references and if the accused have appealed.
