Of the 28 students who took part in the fast, 20 were admitted to the hospital

Of the 28 students who went on hunger strike demanding the resignation of Farid Uddin Ahmed, vice-chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SHUST) in Sylhet, 20 fell ill and were hospitalized. They are being treated. 7 students are going on hunger strike in front of the Vice Chancellor’s residence.

The agitating students are not moving away from their one-point demand even after holding virtual meetings with the education minister. The students also said that they were not interested in discussing any issue other than the issue of resignation of the vice-chancellor. The agitating students took a position at the front gate of the vice-chancellor’s residence and announced that they would not allow anyone to enter.

The agitating students disconnected the power supply of the Vice-Chancellor’s residence around 6:15 pm on Sunday. A delegation of agitating students held a virtual meeting with Education Minister Dipu Moni on Saturday from 12:30 pm to 2.30 pm to resolve the crisis.

The University Teachers Network has expressed solidarity with the student movement demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed in Shabiprabi. On Monday, they will go on a symbolic hunger strike at the foot of the invincible Bengal of Dhaka University.
