The Cabinet has approved in principle the draft of Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioner Appointment Act, 2022. The approval was given at a virtual cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.
Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said this at a briefing at the Secretariat after the meeting at the South Plaza of Parliament.
According to the draft, the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioner will be appointed through the inquiry committee. Eligibility for the post of Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioner will be for Bangladeshi nationals who are 50 years of age and have at least 20 years of working experience in government, private, semi-government or judicial posts.
