Murad sends resignation letter to his office

Murad Hassan, state minister for information and broadcasting, has sent a letter of resignation to his office today.

The letter of resignation was signed by the state minister, reports Bangla Daily Prothom Alo.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the state minister to resign from the cabinet for his offensive and derogatory remarks on women that sparked waves of criticism.

During an interview on the Facebook page NahidRains Pictures, posted on social media on Saturday, the state minister made some offensive comments on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman.

He then got embroiled in another controversy when an audio clip of a phone call between him and actor Emon and movie actress Mahi leaked and went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the High Court today ordered BTRC to remove all videos and audio of Murad’s derogatory comments from online platforms and social media within 24 hours.
