SSC candidate run over by a bus in Rampura: Helper arrested

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today arrested the helper of the Anabil Paribahan bus, which ran over an SSC candidate in Dhaka’s Rampura Bazar last night.

The arrestee is Chan Mia. He was arrested from Dhaka’s Saidabad area, according to Rab sources.

The driver of the bus was arrested last night, Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner (Motijheel) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DPM) said.

The deceased, Md Mainuddin Islam, was a student of Rampura Ekramunnessa High School and was taking the ongoing SSC exams, his mother Rasheda Begum told yesterday.

After learning about the death of the student, locals went to the spot and set nine local buses, including the one that killed Mainuddin, on fire around 11:08pm last night, Ershad Hossain, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room, told the press.

“On information, four fighting units rushed to the spot to douse the blaze,” added the duty officer.

The Anabil Paribahan bus hit the victim while it was overtaking a Raida Paribahan bus near Rampura Bazar, Hekmot Ali, an eyewitness told this correspondent.
