Students on the road: looking at licenses and papers

Students took to the streets on Sunday to demand justice for the death of Naeem Hasan of Notre Dame College in the capital’s Gulistan. They gathered at Nilkhet corner around 11 am today.

He took a procession from Nilkhet junction and took position on the road in front of City College. Later in the afternoon, the students took position on Dhanmondi Road No. 27 and checked the driver’s license and documents. Students were stationed there and traffic was disrupted.

One of the protesting students told the media that while we are protesting for safe roads, blocking the roads, we are still seeing the steering wheel in the hands of the helper without a driver. Again, even if there is a driver, there is no driving license. Again, valid documents of some transports are not available. Our movement will continue. We have requested the traffic police to check any transport including bus so that it does not run without valid documents and without a valid driver’s license.

New Market Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Qayyum said some students from two local educational institutions marched from Nilkhet to City College. They have now taken a stand in front of City College with all the demands that the students had been on the streets for a few days.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanmondi Police Station Ikram Ali said that the students have taken a position on Mirpur Road at Dhanmondi No. 27 just like yesterday.

Meanwhile, students are protesting in Shantinagar, Mirpur, Farmgate, Rampura, and several other places in the capital. Their demand is to ensure justice in the case of the death of Naeem Hasan of Notre Dame College.
