Jannat Ara Jharna, the alleged second wife, has come forward to testify against Mamunul Haque, the joint secretary-general of the defunct committee of Hifazat-e-Islam, in a rape case filed at Sonargaon police station in Narayanganj. Narayanganj Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal Judge on Wednesday. Testimony was taken in the court of Shahin Uddin. The plaintiff Jharna and the accused Mamunul Haque were faces to face in court at that time.
Earlier, the court had ordered to start the trial of the rape case filed in Jharna on November 3.
Public Prosecutor (PP) of Narayanganj District Women and Child Abuse Suppression Court Rakibuzzaman Rakib said Mamunul Haque was brought to Narayanganj court from Kashimpur jail under police guard. The plaintiff Jharna was also present in the court.
According to the statement of the case, Jharna’s married life with Shahidul Islam was going on happily and peacefully. They have two children aged 18 and 13. Jharna met Mamunul Haque in 2005 as a close friend of her husband. Due to the free movement in their homes, Mamunul cleverly enters into small family differences and continues to create distance between husband and wife.
At one stage of the domestic tension, on the advice of Mamunul, he parted ways with Shahidul on 10 August 2016.
Jharna alleged in the affidavit that Mamunul persuaded her to come to Dhaka on the pretext of helplessness after the separation. After coming to Dhaka, Mamunul left him at the house of various followers known to him and made various ‘bad offers’ to him. Following this, on the advice of Mamunul, he started having a sublet in a house in Kalabagan. Mamunul Haque also had a physical relationship with him with the promise of marriage. But when it comes to marriage, Mamunul is doing it, he keeps on saying that he will do it.
In the statement, Jharna further complained that Mamunul had been taking her to various hotels and resorts since 2016, saying he was wandering around. Mamunul raped her on April 3 while she was visiting the Royal Resort in Sonargaon, Narayanganj.
