At present, the per capita foreign debt of the citizens of Bangladesh is Tk 24,890, said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
The minister was responding to a question from Didarul Alam, a ruling party MP from the Chittagong-4 constituency, on Wednesday (September 15). Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the question and answer session.
The finance minister said the current foreign debt balance was 45 49,458 million. According to data from the Bureau of Statistics, the total population of the country is 169.31 million. The per capita foreign debt is 292.11 US dollars. At 85.21 rupees per dollar, it stands at 24,890 rupees 69 paise.
Replying to a question from Didarul Alam, the Finance Minister said that the amount of loan agreements with various development partner countries/institutions till June 30 this year is 95,908.34 million US dollars. Of this, 59 thousand 458 million US dollars have been discounted. The discount is awaiting 46,450.34 million US dollars.
