The bomber struck shortly afternoon in front of a U.S. military base near the U.S. embassy in the northern city of Erbil. Kurdish security forces said in a statement on Saturday, local time.
No one was injured in the two drone strikes. There was no damage at the airport. The airport is also used as a base for anti-militant forces. Ahmed Hoshiar, director of the anti-militant group, said there was no damage to the airport in the attack.
A representative from the scene said he heard two large explosions. He saw smoke billowing around the US embassy. Heard the sound of the siren. Witnesses said security forces closed the entrance to the airport.
