A close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, former MP from Dinajpur and Awami League leader M. Abdur Rahim’s fifth death anniversary will be on Saturday.
On this occasion, various programs have been taken by M. Abdur Rahim’s family, various political and social organizations.
M. Abdur Rahim is the father of High Court Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Jatiya Sangsad Whip Iqbalur Rahim MP.
He died on 4 September 2016 at the age of 90 while undergoing treatment at Bardem Hospital in Dhaka.
M Abdur Rahim was born on 21 November 1927 in Jalalpur village of Shankarpur union of Dinajpur Sadar upazila.
As a student He joined the language movement. He played a leading role in the construction of Shaheed Minar of Rajshahi College.
M. Abdur Rahim, a member of the Legal Aid Committee in the historic Agartala case, was elected a member of the provincial council in 1970 as an Awami League candidate.
During the war of independence He served as the organizer of the war of liberation in the greater Dinajpur region. In 1971, Mujibnagar government appointed M Abdur Rahim as Chairman-1 of West Zone.
Abdur Rahim also played an important role as one of the members of the constitution drafting committee of independent Bangladesh.
Abdur Rahim, who was the President of Dinajpur District Awami League and District Bar Association, was elected Member of Parliament from Dinajpur Sadar constituency in 1991.
In 2018, M Abdur Rahim was awarded the highest state honor ‘Swadhinata Padak (posthumous)’.
