Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh awarded National Fisheries Medal 2021 (Silver Medal) to the River Police Bangladesh in recognition of its unique contribution to the development and management of fisheries resources at the inaugural function of National Fisheries Week 2021 organized by Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Resources on Sunday 29 August. Additional IGP of Bangladesh Police Atiqul Islam received the medal on behalf of the River Police.
It is noted that the River Police has played an important role in increasing production of Hilsa by participating in Bangladesh ‘Jatka Raksha Abhiyan’, Mother Hilsa Conservation Campaign and Special Combing Operation. In particular, Operation Jatka, Operation Kaptai Lake, Operation Halda, Operation ‘Samudrasima’ and Operation Sundarbans have made significant contributions to the protection of fisheries resources. River police have seized 42,14,22,015 meters of nets, 27,063 kg of mother hilsa and 2,974 boats across the country in the 2020 ‘Ma Hilsa’ conservation drive. It has also played an effective role in preventing environmental pollution and securing fish habitats.
