Covid-19: 198 deaths, 7,352 cases counted in 24hrs

Bangladesh has reported another 198 Covid-19 deaths in the preceeding 24 hours, climbing the death toll from the pandemic to 24,574. Besides, the overall virus caseload stood at 14,33,396 as 7,352 more tested positive for the virus during the period.

The daily COVID-data was published in a press release signed by Professor Dr. Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today (Tueday, August 17).

The recovery count rose to 13,14,916 after another 12,950 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time, said the DGHS press release.

As many as 39,218 samples were collected in the span of 24 hours, yielding the COVID-positive rate of 19.18 percent, it added.

The DGHS statistics showed the recovery rate at 91.73 percent while the mortality rate stood at 1.71 percent.

Dhaka registered the most daily deaths and new cases. as usual, among the 8 divisions in the last 24 hours, logging 72 fatalities and 4,335 fresh virus cases. Chattogram tailed 52 deaths and 1,325 cases followed by Khulna with 26 deaths and 471 cases in the same period.Among the dead, 116 were male and 82 were female.

Earlier, The highest single-day deaths 264 from Covid-19 and 11,164 cases were reported on Tuesday (August 10). On August 5, the same number of people died of the virus.

The first Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020, and the first deaths from the virus were on March 18.
